Stanford unversity professor Daphne Koller introudced us to Coursera.org, an effort to bring rigorous college courses online to anyone who wants them. At the time, Coursera offered classes from Princeton Unversity, Michigan Unversity, Stanford universtiy and the university of Pennylvania. Howver, Coursera announced partnerships with seven more top colleges in the USA

At the same time, Caltech and the University of Pennsylvania have extended a combined $3.7 million investment in the site. And three international schools — the University of Edinburgh, the University of Toronto and Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne — have also signed agreements with Coursers.

英國《泰晤士報》報導，特龍本在史丹福任教的電腦科學學士課程，一年學費要5萬3400美元（16萬3938令吉）。

去年，他將人工智能課放上網，結果這免費課程影響無遠弗屆，16萬學生遍及全球190個國家，包括戰區美軍。成績最好的410位學生，全部並非來自史丹福。

「可能我在史丹福也不能接觸最好的學生。」特龍辭去史丹福的教職，成立網上教育機構Udacity，學生只需付一美元（3.07令吉），就可修讀史丹福收取約3000美元（9210萬令吉）的課程。

哈佛大學和麻省理工學院最近耗資6000萬美元（1億8420萬令吉），為網上教學公司Coursera製作免費網上課程，很多課程都由著名學者教授。史丹福大學、密歇根大學等院校都是Coursera的合作夥伴。

Coursera學生雖不會獲大學學分，但會獲證書證明。去年一名修讀電腦科學的學生，原來是日本福島核電廠工程師，更將從課程學到的新知識應用在處理海嘯危機上，這些課程料逐漸獲僱主認可
